Push Past The Negativity

When life throws you lemons, just make some lemonade and move on. We all have those times where we are afraid of being judged or looked down on. And this happened last week. When I got a comment on one of my pictures. "That girl isn't fit". On a post specifically about how I knew I didn't fit the "stereotypical" mold for what a fit person looks like, yeah, it was weird. But you know what I realized. I felt sad for that person more than angry, hurt, upset. I had an overwhelming sense of sadness for them. Because most people who comment hurtful things, or not nice things, are jealous or just plain mean. Let's just say the person was the former. I have no idea who that person is or what they look like but what if they were plus size? What if they thought they could not be fit because of their shape or size? That exercise is a losing battle because it will never work for them. Because it never did in the past. They have tried too many times to count and they never reached their goal, or struggled to get there so much that they gave up.

It's ignorant views like this that teach the next generation what qualifies as pretty, fit or popular. I am a FIT PLUS SIZE WOMAN. And I am on a mission to help change the thinking of what is considered "fit". Like Lizzy, that plus size ballerina, or Jessamyn, the plus size yogi

We are breaking the normal /expected/ idolized stereotype. To teach others that we should support and cheer on anyone who is changing their lives and positively influencing thinking for the current and future generations. It's about change and embracing that change. What can you do to change the stereotype of what is healthy, fit and beautiful? Share our message. Share our pages with your friends. Spread the word that "hey, there are inspiring women of all shapes and sizes doing hard things now because they want to." Spread the word.

Plus Size Fitness: Butt Shaping Workout

I just graduated from phase 1 of 80 Day Obsession, and I had some amazing results in the first 4 weeks (see my results above!) I was actually surprised and wasn't even expecting my butt shaping results. But now, I want to share with you my favorite butt exercises from 80 Day Obsession! Curious about learning more about 80 Day Obsession? CHECK OUT THIS POST HERE!

** 80 Day obsession uses resistance loops. And for me, man, they roll (like in the picture above), but I still get a great workout even when they roll. They key is to use the right resistance level, and gradually work up to more and more resistance.

The key to every move is to squeeze your butt. When you get to a standing position squeeze as tight as you can. And for the moves on your knees, flex your foot while squeezing your butt.

Complete 3 sets of 10 reps. All moves can be done without weights, or resistance bands. I'm using them for the extra resistance and strength training!

//DO NOT BE AFRAID TO LIFT HEAVY!// Week 2 of phase 2 means we are lifting heavier because we don’t do as many reps in a row. I used to be terrified to lift heavy you guys! “I already have a ton of muscle! I don’t want to bulk up!” But what I was told then and now finally believe is that muscles burns more fat. The more muscle you have the more fat it will burn. And I’m doing a program, and eating the way I should be that will create lean muscle. Not bulk. 5 weeks completed now and my arms look smaller to me. My legs look smaller to me. My belly, most days, looks smaller to me. I’m burning fat! This is what exercise is for. To strengthen your body and help your body function better. I would rather look toned and defined with muscle on my body than skinny any day of the week anyhew. And as a plus size gal, my body can already move around a lot of extra weight. Don’t be scared to use 15, 20, 25 or more weights! But build up to it. Today I retired my 5 pound weights. I won’t be using them (I think) anymore in this program. I need to challenge myself more. So! Get out there and work up to lifting heavier! 3x10 format today. Each move was done in 3 sets of 10 reps. #strengthtraining #workout #fitness #fitmom #strongnotskinny #strongwomen #bootyπŸ‘ #strongbody #mom #fitmom #fitmoms #fitginger #ginger #bbg #plussize #plussizefitness #weightloss #weightlossjourney #80dayobsession #imobsessed #healthybody #autumncalabrese #imdoingit

Overcoming Challenges To Turn "I Will" Into "I AM!"

I have never done a program like this before. I am pushing myself to trying new, hard and awkward things that a year ago I would have said was too hard, or way above my level and just half assed or not even attempted in the first place.

Honestly there has only been one other time that I was able to push past those mental blocks of "you can't do this". When I was training for my half marathon while pregnant. I had made a goal with myself before I got pregnant that I was going to run that race no matter what, pregnant or not. And I did! And I will never ever forget the feeling of crossing that finish line with my best friend hand in hand.

This past summer, I promised myself that I was going to go all in with this program when it came out. And I am. I have been doing the toughest workouts I have ever done, pushed past the mental barrier of "I CAN'T DO IT" and being able to say, YES, I AM ALREADY DOING IT!

It is so empowering overcoming challenges.

But it doesn't happen unless you try. Don't be afraid of trying new, hard things. You can adapt. You are so much stronger than you think you are. The thing that often times holds us back the most, is our own mind. But once you push past that, you can do anything!

Here's to another day of loving myself, and not only surviving another workout, but finishing stronger in the end both mentally and physically!

//WHEN IT’S HARD, YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP MOVING!// Day 27/80: DONE! I knew from other people’s comments that this workout was going to be challenging. And my mindset going in was just, do the move and don’t stop till she says to. I went at my own pace. Tried to keep up as best as I could. I even surprised myself a few times with being able to do the moves that initially looked hard. I have never done a workout program like this. I have never pushed myself as much as I am. I have never pushed past that mental barrier of “just so it’ll as easily as I have been able to with this workout. Because I know it’s tough I’m not letting that stop me or get in my way! You are so much stronger than you believe and when you push past that mental wall that tries to stop you, you will realize how strong you truly are. Don’t give up and keep going. Your goal, your results are worth it to fight for every single day! . . . #motivation #inspiration #fitness #workout #80dayobsession #imobsessed #strongereveryday #plussize #plussizejourney #plussizefitness #plussizefitnessjourney #bbg #fitginger #mom #mombod #momof3 #goaldigger #worthit #autumncalabrese @autumncalabrese

Do I Really Need Fitness Supplements?

this post contains affiliate links, meaning that if you buy the products recommended, you won't pay more but I'll get a small commission. It's what pays the bills!
I was recently asked:

"Can I get the same results without having to use supplements?"

I get it. Supplements get a bad rap sometimes. They can be expensive. And it's just a whole other level of investing. Right now is the first time that I have truly invested in using supplements in my own training. Because I WANT SPECIFIC RESULTS an I am following what is recommended for the program! And I FEEL AMAZING. I'm working hard, and am less sore. My body is functioning better. And I have more energy!

The short and simple truth to needing fitness supplements is going to be yes and no. Supplements are fabulous, but they are not required. They help to fill in the gaps or deficiencies that you may need help with. Think about it, are you really eating enough veggies and fruits? How about protein? A lot of the foods our there are nutrient lacking. But even when I am eating the right amount of foods and a very balanced diet I still want to make sure all my nutrients are covered.

Think of it as an accessory. You don't really NEED to wear makeup or that necklace to look awesome But they enhance our natural beauty. Supplements are just that, an enhancement to your workout.

Nutrition is such an important aspect of your workout routine because your body takes what you fuel it with to help you work harder during your workout, but also help your body rebuild and recovery. With the right fuel, great things can happen.

Sure, you can get by with taking zero supplements-it just might take a bit longer to reach your goals.

Let's get one thing straight right here and now:

  • skinny
  • detoxed
  • cleansed
  • healthy
  • lose weight
  • toned
  • trim
  • bigger
  • muscular
  • faster
  • prettier
  • smarter
  • whatever
I have been there and tried many of them. I am sure many of us have fallen victim to numerous ads on television or magazines daily saying, "Pop this pill and you will lose xxx amount of pounds like I did!"

There is no quick trick to getting the body that you want. It takes hard work, exercise daily, on point nutrition of fueling your body and TIME!

If you are serious about your health and fitness and reaching your goals. And you have really changed your eating habits or are following a nutrition plan. I have been a coach for almost 4 years, and this is the first time I have used a post workout recovery and nighttime recovery. And when you are ready to start taking supplements, you need to find the right brand. In this society and age, there are thousands of supplement companies to choose from.

It is not regulated as it should be by the FDA. So, you could be taking something that you truly and honestly think will be helping you move toward your goals while in actuality it is not making a difference. You must check the ingredient. No matter what you put in your body, read the ingredients!
I finally found the supplements that I love and so will you. They are even the official supplements for the IronMan Races! But first, please do some research on what you are taking.

But, do I recommend them, personally?

Yes! I have been enjoying my daily shake for over 3 years now, even while pregnant. I also have been using the a pre-workout mix for over a year consistently. I feel like it is my excuse crusher. I just rock my workout and take it to a whole other level when I have it. I only recently started taking my post workout recovery and night time recovery but already love the results I am getting from them! I am feeling better, stronger and I have had faster results using them vs not having them.

"But, can't I just eat  food? I don't really like shakes."

Yes... BUTThe average person does not ingest enough vitamins and minerals in his or her food on a daily basis, which makes supplementation a vital part of your routine.

For example, let's talk specifically about protein for a second. The average personally typically needs around 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. So if you are 120 lbs, you will need at least 120 grams of protein per day. While this may seem easy in theory to meet this through your daily dietary intake, sometimes it isn't always so easy to eat that much protein. And if you are very physically active, you will need more grams of protein daily to repair your muscles. This is where protein powders are your best friend.

So, what supplements do I personally recommend?
  • Shakeology is my multivitamin. I personally cleared it with my primary care and my OB while I was pregnant (always check with them first!)
  • A pre-workout powder to get you pumped and increase strength/endurance for your workout (I use Energize by Beachbody Performance. It is all natural and does not make me feel jittery like other pre-workout powders.)
  • During workout Hydration supplement. I use Beachbody's Hydrate to replace lost electrolytes better than water alone and keeps me hydrated.
  • A post-workout recovery powder (I love Beachbody's Recover. With key ingredients to help speed muscle recovery and combat exercise-induced muscle soreness
  • And if you need additional support for recovery, I LOVE Beachbody's Recharge. It helps support overnight muscle recovery and promotes lean-muscle growth

You can get the exact same stack that I use HERE, gives you the Performance Line stack with all of my 4 favorite products. Or you can get the pre-workout and post-workout supplements included in your 80 Day Obsession Kit with Shakeology!
