~My first 5k - 2013~
My story!

This blog originally started as a running blog. To help motivate plus size women that they don't have to be a certain weight to start running. But it has since morphed into an overall health and wellness blog and I LOVE IT! My journey to finally start working on me began in 2009. I had tried to lose weight before that point, but it never worked.

When my husband got deployed and I needed something else to keep me busy. No kids yet and teaching piano was fun but I needed something for me and needed to get my big butt in shape. I wanted to have kids and the thought of getting pregnant at 230 pounds scared me to death! So I hired a personal trainer and after about 6 months of personal training I started running. I lost 30 lbs and got below 200 lbs. It only lasted for a few months because we became pregnant with our first son through the help of fertility treatment.

~My first 4miler race - 3 weeks pregnant~
My husband was deployed to Iraq when our son was 3 days old and I didn't have family around so I had to say bye-bye to going to the gym. I worked with a nutritionist to help me learn to eat the right kinds of foods that my body needed and ended up losing the weight again after my first son. But after suffering 2 miscarriages I gained a lot of my weight back because I started to emotional eat. It took 2 more years and heartbreak to get my big butt again back into shape. May of 2013 I suffered my second miscarriage in a year and I had made it to almost 12 weeks pregnant. The pregnancy was so stressful. Went to the doctor all the time for blood work. My husband was in AZ for training the entire time I was pregnant. the day before Mother's Day I miscarried. Broke my heart, my faith, and I became angry. Plus I gained 12 lbs in just those 12 weeks. So I had the 12 lbs plus what I had regained.

There were signs up all over town about a local 5k on June 1st. 3 weeks after my miscarriage I walked my first 5k. 2 weeks after that I joined the local Women's 4 miler training program. 1 week after that I signed up for my first 1/2 marathon and 4 miler.

~2014 Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon - 29 weeks pregnant~
Since then I have run 2 5k's, a 4 miler, 8k, 10k, and a 1/2 marathon (at 29 weeks pregnant with my second child)!!! After having Collin I continued to exercise and run until I suffered yet another miscarriage that actually almost took my life. I suffered a placental abruption and was supposed to run in the local 10 miler that morning it happened. My doctor said that had I run in the race, the abruption would have happened on course and I would have died. I almost did. Since that point I haven't really been able to run sadly. But I turned to at home exercises to do cross training so my body is ready to run again when my mind can handle it too. I lost 20 pounds over 5 months, and got pregnant again! (Yes, I have gotten pregnant A LOT!) I promised myself that I was going to exercise during the whole pregnancy and I DID! I was able to have a healthy and fit plus size pregnancy. Only gaining 26 pounds total and already lost most of it by 3 months postpartum. I am now happier, healthier and fitter than I ever have been and have huge goals to accomplish! Check out my journey. Pregnancy with my 3rd baby. Exercised 5 days a week and gained 26 pounds. By 3 months postpartum I was only 8 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight.
